Tips to Preparing Your Business for 2020

Updated: Dec 18, 2019

Hey Bosses,

You can't move forward until you know which path to take, why you want to take that path, and if it is the best path for you. - SaRatta Speaks

We are 4 weeks shy of entering a new year and with that brings a lot of excitement and anxiety as we begin to think about plans for our business in 2020. The excitement comes from getting another opportunity to do things bigger and better and the anxiety may come from not wanting to repeat the previous year OR not knowing how to increase growth in the new year.

Whatever you are feeling I want to provide some tips + steps to take, to move you forward in a direction that will be right for you and your business. In order to move forward, you must first understand where you are, what brought you to this point, and how to strategically map our a plan for the future. Start with asking yourself questions about your business in 2019. I have a list of 3 questions that I ask myself near the end of each year to determine how I want to start planning the next year.

To really get a sense of how you want to plan, start by getting the answers to The 3 BIG Questions about your business in 2019.

The 3 BIG Questions
  • What was your biggest accomplishment in 2019?

  • What was your biggest failure and what did you learn from it?

  • What is the ONE thing you will do differently in 2020?

Take the time to write out each answer by digging deep and listing everything that comes to mind. This will process will create a list of things that did not work and that did work. Bonus: It will also create a list of lessons learned that you can use as content for your audience in blog posts, social posts, and email campaigns. Once you write out all of your accomplishments and all of the things that did not work, circle your top 3 and then narrow it down to your top item for the answer to each question. Next make a list of all the things you want to do differently with your business for 2020. Review the list and prioritize each by level of importance. Decide which will ultimately have the most impact on your business. Then circle the top item. The circled item is going to be your starting point. That is how you prioritize what is most important to work on first in your business.

Over the next four weeks I will post a blog weekly that covers a topic + action steps to take, to help you in preparing your business for 2020.

The four topics I will cover are:

  • The Vision - Outlining the dream of where you see your business in 2020
